Ömer CAN

Ömer CAN (Violonist, Maestro)

Born in 1934, the artist started violin education at “Akpınar Köy Enstitüsü” in 1946-1951 soon after the primary school. In 1951 he started his higher education at the Music Department of Gazi Education Institute and graduated in 1954. He went to Germany twice with Germany's DAAD scholarship and Turkish State Scholarship and graduated from the “Cologne State High School of Music” with an "Artistic Maturity Diploma". He worked as the first violinist in “Folkwang Chamber Orchestra”. After returning Turkey, he worked as a lecturer in the Music Department of Gazi Education Institute. He gave numerous concerts as a soloist and also with the "Gazi Education Trio" he founded. In 1980, he started as the first violinist of the General Directorate of State Opera and Ballet Orchestra and worked for many years as the konzertmeister of the orchestra. He took place as a guest artist at the international concerts of the Presidential Symphony Orchestra. He retired in 1999. As a veteran, he volunteered for more than 40 years as the konzertmeister and managerial director of the “Başkent Oda Orkestrası”.
